BATTLE OF THE BOGO

Slapped on almost every Supreme item is their iconic box logo. Whether it’s broken up or multicolored, the “BOGO” as they call it, has become a status symbol that many identify with the brand.
The logo is made up of white oblique Futura font wrapped around a bold cherry red rectangle box. All of which fit the profile of conceptual artist Barbara Kruger’s work which features red box logos in her pieces.
One of Kruger’s most popular pieces was published in 1989 and titled “Your Body is a Battleground”, to show her support of women’s rights. Her creation of the white-on-red box logo was birthed far before Supreme’s establishment in 1994, triggering a lawsuit against the streetwear brand.
Meanwhile, Kruger’s art can be found in museums like the Broad in Los Angeles and Supreme merchandise is still rocked by millions around the world.
